What A Man Says
One of the things that I firmly believe is that in order to be a believer in Christ, we must demonstrate our faith in both our words and in our actions. We cannot simply say that we believe and then live out our lives as though we do not. True belief means that we actually live it out. Actually, living for Christ is not nearly as easy as it may seem. At every turn, this world will try to influence us to turn in a different direction. There are temptations and hardships everywhere. Yet, the Lord will always be faithful to bring us closer to Him when we seek Him.
In today’s scripture, we read about the prophet Ezekiel when he was first being called by the Lord. There is an interesting exchange that takes place. Ezekiel hears the voice of the Lord and the Lord instructs Ezekiel to stand up because the Lord is about to speak to him. The first time I read this, I was expecting the next sentence to say that Ezekiel stood up so that he could hear what the Lord was going to say. Instead, Ezekiel has a rather unexpected experience. He says that as he heard the voice telling him to stand up, the Spirit came into him and raised him to his feet. As we analyze this event, we can gain some amazing and awesome encouragement in regard to being obedient to what the Lord has called us to do in this world.
When Ezekiel received the instruction to stand up, it might seem pretty straight forward. If God Himself asked one of us to stand up, I think we would absolutely do it! But what do we read actually happened? It does not say that Ezekiel then stood up and God started to speak. It said that as God asked him to stand up, the very Spirit of God came into Ezekiel and brought him up to his feet. God does not simply tell us what to do and then leave us alone to do the task. His Spirit is in us and with His and works on our behalf to do it. If He can do this with something as simple as standing up, then you can be assured that when we face more difficult and challenging tasks, His Spirit will be right there in us and with us so that we are empowered to do the work that He has called us to do. Also, after the Spirit raised him to his feet, he continued to hear the voice of the Lord. The Lord was faithful to do what He had said He would do.
Be encouraged today that we serve a God that not only speaks to us and gives us direction, but He also walks along that path with us and empowers us to do the very things that He has asked us to do. Do not be afraid when the Lord asks you to do something because with Him there is nothing that is impossible!
