What A Man Says
My wife and I just returned from a mission trip. This trip was different from any other mission trip we had been on. All of the trips that we have been on in the past have been outside of our home country and required long flights overseas. Once we would arrive we would settle into our hotel and then spend all of our time preaching and teaching the Word of the Lord. Preaching and teaching God’s Word is one of our passions. This trip was very different however.
We left of June 20th from our home and set out on the road for Columbus Ohio. This was only three hours away from our home. This was the first mission trip we have ever gone on in our own country. We also did not stay in a hotel. We drove an RV, or mobile home, that we were blessed to be able to borrow from our dear friends who also went on the trip. This meant that during our time, we stayed and slept inside the RV. We primarily worked at a Christian ministry center which ministers to children and families, and we did very little preaching and teaching. Instead, the majority of the time spent on the trips was doing physical work. We did lots of cleaning and organizing in the center, we fixed various issues with the building, and worked to install new skylights in the ceiling of the center so that the children inside could have more light. It was wonderful to see and the experience the impact that the work that took place had upon not only the children and families in the center, but also the volunteers who work there.
There was no doubt that my wife and I at times felt a little out of place on this trip. These were activities that for the most part we are not normally called to do. And yet, I know for myself this was an experience that God used to help me grow. I was challenged to do something that was out of my comfort zone and was physically difficult to do. But more important than being in my comfort zone is obeying what the Lord has led me to do. I knew that God wanted my wife and I to be on this trip and I knew that I had a choice to make, to either submit to that lead, or try to change it to suit my own feelings. I am praising the Lord that by His Spirit my wife and I both went through this trip and were blessed to see what the Lord has done.
If you are reading this today and you know that the Lord has called you to do something, do it. It may not always be easy, it may not always be comfortable, and it may challenge you to go outside of your comfort zone. But, when you move forward in obedience to the Lord you will reap a harvest of peace and joy that nothing in this world can bring into your life.
