Keepers of The Home
“She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.”
Is it just me or is does this women whom they are describing industrious and also fit? She sounds very well versed in real-estate, so much so that she is entrusted with family finances to make a purchase that would be beneficial. She is far from an idle women, planting a vineyard for their own good and maybe even further profit for the family. Now can you see why this women would be described as doing good to her husband all of her days and not evil (verse 12)? She is making sure she is an asset to the family and not a drain.
Notice in verse 17 that she girds her loins with strength as well as her arms. I have never taken notice of this before, but it sounds to me as though she is in the business of keeping her body fit and healthy. What a benefit to not only herself, but all of her family. She is aware of all aspects of her life as well as the rest of her family. She wastes no time or effort on idle, mindless things, everything she puts her hands to is for the good of herself as well as others.
“She perceives that her merchandise is good”, she does nothing halfheartedly. She takes the time to do a good job so that what she has to offer is of quality. I don’t know about you, but I am becoming more and more challenged by this gal with every verse! “Her candle goes not out by night.” So just as we saw earlier about her rising up early, we see she also goes to bed late. I know that I feel so refreshed and more ready to take on my day when I wake up early and am able to get things done before the kids wake up. Likewise, we are in a habit of laying the kids down a few hours before we ourselves need to get to bed in order to get things done.
I hope that in going over these verses you have been able to see some areas in your own life that you could improve. Keep in mind that condemnation comes from the enemy, but conviction and inspiration come from the Lord. It is my prayer that we will all be seeking growth in the Lord, for we haven’t “arrived” until we see Him face to face.
