Keepers of The Home
The other day it hit me, we as parents lecture our children and hold back from following through with our punishments because we love our children and desire to bless them. It is once we follow through though, with issues big enough to battle, that we indeed bless them in the long run. The Lord Himself says He chastises those He loves (Hebrews 12:6, Revelation 3:19). Dear parent, do not give up or grow weary in doing good towards your children, they need your oversight and guidance!
Parenting can be so exhausting at times, and it can be easy to just want to let issues go or nag constantly about them instead of following through with consequences. I can honestly tell you, however, that I know that it has been my diligence in our children’s lives when they were young, that we see them walk in such victory today. For instance, several of our children struggled with lying when they were young. It was my relentless pursuit of justice, which often wearied me, that has gotten them to live honest lives today. They will tell the truth even when they know they will be punished. What a beautiful truth they have learned to walk in, a clean conscious. It was not without much labor and diligence on my part that they have gotten there.
The same goes with messy behaviors, responsibility, and bad attitudes, the list is endless. We know how hard self-control is for us as individuals, being a parent you add on even more responsibility if you want your children to grow up with any standard. I am here today to tell you that it is worth it. Worth your focus, time and attention to raise children who are aware of their surroundings and contributions. Parenting is a relatively short season in our lives, let us do it as unto the Lord and not unto man (Colossians 3:23-24).
Make up your mind today that you will be a parent who follows through instead of lectures. Resolve in your heart to pay attention to the details in your child’s life, so that they can know they are the apple of your eye and that you truly desire the best for them. May the Lord bless you in all of your efforts and give you wisdom to follow through with the task of parenting with your whole heart.
