Keepers of The Home
I heard on the news the other day that Communist China is beginning to see the value of their Christian populace. They are noticing that the Christian's work ethic exceeds that of their non-Christian peers. What a testimony to God’s ways! Are you an excellent worker? Do you do everything with God in mind?
Good work ethic has been drilled into me from a very young age. My father used to always tell us to leave everything in better shape than how we found it. This has proven to be wonderful advice and given me a respected name. People tend to trust my family and know that we value quality. That is a characteristic by which I want all of us to be known.
Do you work in your home as unto the Lord? Do you serve your family with excellent, thoughtful meals, a clean home, and little touches of joy? We have such a privilege as keepers of the home! It is my prayer that it is your joy to serve your family first and foremost in your home.
The Bible teaches us that a good name is more precious than riches. (Proverbs 22:1) We get a good name by doing quality work and working with excellence to extol our Father in Heaven. This is a value we want to pass along to our children. It takes time to do so as we must be a continuous example of that which we admire above all else. Children learn more by what we do than by what we say. Along with setting them an example, reward your children's hard work every chance you get and be intentional about slowing down in order to show them how to do a good job.
In our house, the children are expected to do household chores without any pay, but there are certain jobs we do pay them for. These are jobs we could normally pay others to do, such as paper work for our business or cleaning the car. Rather than hire someone to do a job your children can do, why not pay them so that they can gain experience?
I hope you see the value of taking pride in your work and teaching your children to do the same. May we glorify our Father in Heaven by doing every task with excellence, and may He always be the actual One we work for!
