Keepers of The Home
God uses every circumstance we find ourselves in to teach us more about Himself. No situation is ever wasted, that is unless we fail to see the opportunity to grow and take advantage of it. Marriage is just one of the tools God uses to give us an opportunity to grow in His attributes.
I don’t know about you but I love being on the receiving end of God’s grace. When He shows me mercy instead of judgment my heart melts with gratitude. Other times however, when I go too far, I find myself suffering the consequences of my behavior. Judgment is another attribute of God and He is perfect in deciding which one He shows us in any given moment.
When we are in close relationship with our Heavenly Father, He is faithful to show us which of His attributes to show towards others. Today I am speaking about marriage and so let us consider our spouse. Marriage has the potential to bring us as close as humanly possible to another person. Some marriages end up lasting longer than the years the individuals spent being single. Can you imagine that? Knowing and living with someone for longer than you remembered what it was like to live without them?
This is the potential in marriage and it is a beautiful one. Of course, we all know that those love stories are very rare. The ignorance of one's youth along with so many other circumstances make it seem almost impossible to live that kind of “fairy tale”. Truth be told however, anyone who has ever spent that much time with someone would tell you it has been anything but a fairy tale. Fairy tales usually involve one major obstacle to overcome and then the couple lives happily ever after. When in reality, we find ourselves in obstacle after obstacle when we remain married for that long.
My desire today is to help paint a picture for you, a picture that’s broader and bigger than the circumstances you find yourself in right now. It is when we are able to take a step back and look at the bigger picture of so many situations, that we are able to find hope. There is beauty in faithfulness and sticking it out.
Dear sister, if you find yourself in a hard place in your marriage today I encourage you to pray to God. Seek HIs counsel, He longs to give it to you! With His help, you and your husband can become a beautiful team and spend years together growing in grace, love and forgiveness. I pray it would be so in Jesus' name.
