As my ten year-old daughter was holding our new baby boy, just days after his birth, she came up to me with tears in her eyes and said she couldn’t believe that some people kill their babies while they are still in their bellies. With tears in my eyes, I shared with her the same facts I will now share with you and told her that these people have simply been deceived. The devil is a very good liar, convincing many to do things that they later regret. May God’s people have mercy and compassion upon those who become entangled in his snare, bringing them to the One who created them and can mend and restore all things.
Many years ago, my husband and I believed the lie that a fetus is just a cluster of cells and not an actual human life that began at conception. This lie caused us to go forward with an abortion that would haunt us until we got saved by God’s grace. We have since gone on to have ten children by the grace of God, and every single one of our children has motivated me to dive deeper into understanding the deception of abortion. I want to expose it for others so they do not make the same mistake that we made.
What I have learned is that science and technology have come a long way in the last several decades. We now know amazing facts about human life such as there being a literal spark of light emitted at the moment of conception! This phenomenon was first observed in mice back in 2011, but in 2016 it was also observed in humans. This flash of light is caused by a reaction involving zinc when the sperm penetrates the egg, but it is also confirming of God’s power on display as new life is formed. Immediately upon conception, a baby has all of his or her DNA intact. That means eye color, hair color, gender, etc is already determined, and he or she just needs an opportunity to grow into the human being God intended for the child to be. And did you know that a heart beat can now be detected as early as five and a half to six weeks into pregnancy with a vaginal ultrasound?
Even with all of this scientific data, we must continue to fight to defend the life of the unborn, to be the voice of reason, hope and truth. We are currently fighting just to get legislation passed that will protect an unborn baby at nine weeks or older. It is heartbreaking to me that the enemy has blinded so many people’s eyes to the preciousness of life inside the womb. Praise God that this current generation is proving to be more pro-life than any generation in the past fifty years—God’s truth is slowly winning hearts and minds. There is hope that, in the near future, this atrocity of abortion may be behind us in this nation.
