Adventures with God – Part 2
- Saying yes to God
In my heart, I had already said yes to God but had my own timing in mind. I thought, if I were to come, I would want to come in Q3 or Q4 of 2020 because I wanted to stay at my job a little longer and also get my year-end bonus. Yet, shortly after I made that decision, I felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit: listen to my timing and lay down your bonus. That was really difficult for me because it would be a large sum of money that could help me financially. I was reminded of the scriptures in Hebrews and Isaiah and realized it is all about trust in God: trusting in God’s leading and in His promises, not in the world’s ways, but in His ways. After a tug of war in the spirit, I responded to God: I am willing to lay this down and follow your timing.
When I got back to Hong Kong at the end of October, I decided to talk to my boss about my family’s plans and intentions to move to Toronto the first day back at the office. However, I was a bit nervous. Nonetheless, I planned out my speech and prayed that I would submit to the Lord’s leading and asked for His favor upon me. To my surprise, the first thing my boss said to me at the meeting was: “Jessica, I have recently been thinking, you know, if you ever plan to move to Canada with your family sometime in the near future, I am fully supportive!” I didn’t even mention one bit about our family’s plans before. Furthermore, he said since he is from Toronto, he can link me up with his contacts and even told me to think about his proposal. I was shocked. I knew God was using my boss as a mouthpiece and messenger as a form of circumstantial confirmation.
Two weeks later, I told him that I had ‘thought about it’ and that it was a family decision to move to Toronto. Timing wise, I shared that our family would like to make the move as soon as possible, so that it would be just after Chinese New Year festival in February. However, he tried to persuade me to stay longer and I was completely open to that because I also wanted to help the company transition my work load smoothly. In November, during a business trip to Singapore and Malaysia, my boss suggested that I stay till the end of March. I was open to that timeline and spoke with my family about it. That timeline worked really well. To my awe and amazement, it was because of that timing, the Lord blessed me with an abundant amount of financial blessing through various sources… I don’t even know why or how it happened but I knew it was completely and 100% God’s love and favor over me.
Actually, during mid-March, Covid-19 hit Canada badly and the country was preparing to go into lock-down mode. During the last days in March, I was so worried that there would be no more flights to Canada. By God’s grace, my family and I took the last direct flight available on Cathay Pacific flying from Hong Kong to Toronto at the end of March. From April onwards, there would be no more direct flights until further notice due to the Covid-19 situation… God’s timing is truly unfathomable.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9, NIV)
Although till this moment, I am not exactly sure why God called me here, I trust that He will unveil this to me in due time. My heart is fully expectant of all the things He has destined me to partner with Him and I am excited to continue adventuring with God and see where He leads me!
