Our God is faithful and I know that full well! From the day I met Him many years ago, He has healed me both physically and emotionally. He has led me in every thought I have had and every step I have taken. Because of this trust, I have been blessed to have a close relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God is the supreme priority in my life. I will not boast about the faith I have, but I will boast about the faithfulness of our Father, our Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!
After my husband and I made a mission trip to Uganda in 2019, God told me that we would not go anywhere in 2020. Now we know the reason . . . Covid-19. Even though the virus has not gone away, God knows better! Beginning in the fall of 2020, He began to tell us to be ready for He was going to send us back to Uganda in the summer of 2021. As a result of the virus, there were more difficulties in planning for the 2021 mission trip and our friends and family were more worried for our safety.
As I said before, our God is faithful and He was not slow in showing us His Guidance and Leadership as we planned the trip. From showing us who would be going with my husband and me, to showing us the specific date to go, to providing the resources needed, He fulfilled them all! He fulfilled every detail, just as the Holy Spirit told me He would. One request I prayed when situations of uncertainty would come up in our planning was what Moses prayed: “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15, NIV) He reassured me using dreams, visions, and words that He would be with us.
The day came and we set out on the journey of this mission. His Word came to me again:
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” (Isaiah 52:7, NIV)
Our God reigns! According to God’s will, we spoke to many people and villages. From the young to the old, His love was spread with kind words, encouragement, and hugs. We danced, worshipped, and told stories to the young. The truth was spoken to all those who attended. Then the Holy Spirit reminded me of a scripture He had given to me before the trip:
“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.” (Psalm 126: 5-6, NIV)
The Holy Spirit had given me understanding that this would not be an easy trip, but we would have victory. Yes, we faced many battles, both in a physical and in a spiritual way, and yet we won in the name of Jesus again and again. Many times during the nights, God gave me visions and dreams about issues that would be coming our way. Because of that, we were prepared and overcame them. We followed His instructions, and we prayed the way that He told us to pray. Challenges came, but His Word and peace also came upon us and led us. One of the greatest testimonies that I can share is this . . .
In the months before the mission trip, God began to take away the fear I had when snakes would show up in my dreams. While on this mission trip, I had a dream about snakes on two different nights, and both times I overcame the snake in my dream. On our last day in the village, twenty-four people accepted Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We were led by the Lord to baptize them and proceeded to go to a river which was near the village. When we stepped down into the water, the Holy Spirit led me to say this prayer: “In the name of Jesus, no feet in the water will be harmed.” One by one, all twenty-four people stepped down into the river and were baptized with water and the Spirit. At one point, I felt something swim over the top of my feet and a second later I felt it curl around my lower right leg. I knew immediately that it was a snake. In that very moment, I experienced a calmness that I could not understand and was able to continue focusing on His work – praying over those who had already been baptized. While I fixed my attention on His work, the snake released and swam away. Many who were standing on the banks of the river saw the snake and gave glory to God when it swam away. They identified it as a large rock python.
Afterward, I gave thanks to my Lord that the water was dirty enough that I could not see what was below the surface and never saw the snake with my eyes. (I never imagined that one day I would thank God for dirty water!) I praised Him that I could be still and that I did not move my leg or give any reason for the snake to see me as a threat and bite me. My biggest praise is that so many witnessed God's protection of His children as they fulfilled His Great Commission!
Do you see what I see – the greatness of our God?!! He is all-knowing and He proved every single day that we were there that His Presence did go with us!
Praise the Lord!
