Author: Leslie Wittenmyer Psalm 121:1-8, New King James Version “I will lift up my eyes to the hills–From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even forevermore.” |
Life can be a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions and events. Sometimes it leaves you in a moment of temporary pause and you're left wondering, what do I say, do, or think? It’s almost like everything you’ve ever known has just up and gone. What does one do in these moments?
My meditation scripture from the week comes from Psalm 121. The passage is short enough, I will share the entire chapter with you.
Psalm 121:1-8 (NKJV), “I will lift up my eyes to the hills–From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even forevermore.”
When life feels like a whirlwind, God is the one constant in our lives that never changes! He assures us that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) says, “For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.” Thank God He never changes! Thank God that He is our strength and our help when we need strength and help!
The challenges we face from day to day can be just that, a challenge. They leave you emotionally drained and physically drained. God gives us some commands to follow, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10, NKJV) “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:33-34, NKJV) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NKJV) When the whirlwind comes, if we take even just a moment to be still, to seek God first, to find rest in Him, He will surely come to our rescue! He will surely deliver it to us! He will surely give us the strength and the wisdom we need to navigate our situation! These precious promises can be found all throughout the Bible.
His faithfulness has been evidenced throughout the Bible. As often as the children of Israel turned from God to worship other gods, they returned with repentance and God delivered them. Even when sin entered the world, He did not give up on His children, but sent a Savior to rescue them. This includes you and I, thank God!
Some days, it’s easy to get caught up in self and try to do it the way of self. What we need to quickly conclude is that we cannot do it on our own strength. It will leave us even more drained than when we began and no further ahead. Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” When we recognize we are relying on self, we need to quickly turn to Him, repent, and ask for help! In our weaknesses, He is strong! (2 Corinthians 12:9, NKJV) “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3, NKJV)
I know there is a ton of scripture in here! But as Peter said very well, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68, NKJV)
