Growing In Faith
I personally love rollercoasters. They are my favorite thing to ride at an amusement park.
Think about this: we are on a little planet spinning completely out of control. Everyday could be our last! When you factor all the variables, each day we live is truly miraculous – a gift not to be taken for granted.
Yet many of us are unhappy. We are frustrated or frightened with all the things in life that are out of our control. We put so much effort into trying to control our various circumstances, the people around us and what others think of us; then, just when we think we have it under control – it all unravels. Leaving us depressed, defeated, and disappointed. We wonder what went wrong or we question everything around us.
Life is like riding a roller-coaster; it has many ups and downs with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Some don’t enjoy the ride because they can’t control the direction in which they’re heading. Like the roller-coaster, life has no steering wheel, but this does not mean it is out-of-control. In fact, God has designated a route for each of us to travel and His perfect plan has many dips, curves, rises and falls. Jeremiah 1:5 (ESV) says, "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophets to the nations" God set us apart for a divine plan and sometimes part of that includes dips, twists and turns. Just like a rollercoaster, if we let go of the bar and stop white-knuckling it we can enjoy the ride with excitement and anticipation, even with the dips, turns, jerks and loops.
To fully appreciate life, we should give up trying to control circumstances, things, or people around us and simply sit back, trust in God and enjoy the ride. Have that child-like faith that you trust your heavenly Father and that you trust that everything will be ok. There is so much God wants to show us if we just sit back, take a deep breath and let Him drive. He knows the best route for our life, not us. Remember, with all its ups and downs, life is just a short amusement ride before entering eternity. Are you going to hang on for dear life or sit back and enjoy the ride?
