Growing In Faith
Matthew 25:1-4, NIV
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps."
It seems that if you want to do anything or go anywhere, you must have a ticket. If you want to go to a ballgame, you must have a ticket. To get into a movie, you must have a ticket. To see a play requires that you have a ticket. The same is true if you plan on traveling using public transportation. If you are flying on an airplane, you must show that you have paid your fare. To board a train or ship, you must show proof that you have purchased a seat.
But what if you had to have a ticket to get into heaven? If you had to have a pass to enter the Kingdom of God, what would it cost? Where would you get it and how could you obtain one? Our ticket to heaven is not made of paper or plastic. It was made human. As John said, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:14). Our way to heaven became a living, breathing soul just as we are, but lived a perfect, sinless life so he could die for our sins. He took our sins and guilt upon Himself and died in our place.
Suppose you had to purchase your salvation: What would it cost? If you had all the money in the world, you could not afford to buy salvation no one could. If we had to buy our way into heaven or do good to earn our entrance into the city of God, we would all be lost. God is not impressed by our good deeds. We must come to Him by the way of the cross; there is no other way. And we have to receive God's kingdom like a child would, with a joyful and thankful heart....there is no other way.
Our ticket into the heavenly kingdom is totally free and costs us nothing if we come to Him as a child and accept Himself as our Lord and Savior. That's all we have to do to get our ticket, no making phone calls or waiting in any lines. Remember, He cannot be one or the other; He has to be both. He cannot be Savior without being Lord. Some are living their lives today that think that just as long as they have Christ as the Savior, that they can live as they please and do anything they want. But this is not so. If you want Him as you Savior, you must also have Him as your Lord. Having Him as your Lord means that you live your life to please Him. Giving your life to Him is transferring the ownership of your life to Him. Rather than doing the things that you want to do, you do the things that He wants you to do.
Our ticket to heaven is one-way. When we die or the Lord comes back to take us home to be with Him in paradise, we will not be coming back. We will be going there to stay! Heaven will be our new and lasting home. No more living a life filled with sorrow, pain, grief and sickness!
Our ticket is nontransferable. You can't give it away or you can't take it from another person. Everyone has to take it for themselves. Nobody else can do it for you; you must do it yourself. This is one thing that we can never do for another person, no matter how much we love them and wish they would be saved.
Time is running out, but there are reservations left and He wants you to get yours. Don’t put it off because they will not be available as a last-minute option when you leave this world and stand before Him. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior today and get your reservation for Heaven now!
