I have heard a lot of people teaching or preaching about putting God first. Some say that, “God should be your first priority.” Some say, “God first, then your family or something else…” Others say, “God should be in every part of your life and not be first or second, but all.” As for me, I say amen to the third. Whatever I do or decide, He is in it. There would be no difference when I am working home, being a helper to my husband, or in my so called “personal time”. I am Coria, the one God has created me to be and He has complete say in me and through me for whatever He desires and He has the same for you, my dear friends!
I believe that everything and everyone in my life has been given by God. Whether you believe they are good or bad, it is still all in God’s plan. What I say does not mean that God sends disaster, harm, danger, or hardship into our life. What I mean is that we are living in a fallen world and following its ways, which are opposite to what God has for us. When we walk towards the world, to the trap of the devil, we are walking far away from God. How close you are to this world and to the devil, will show how far away you are from God. This also includes anything that comes between you and God. This may be your heart for your family, your career, your desires or dreams, your property…whatever it is, if you seek it more than God then it will come between you and the Lord.
A question I always bring up to those who have concern for a family member is this, “Do you think your love for them is more than God’s?” This is not a statement, but an absolute truth. 1 John 4:19 (NIV) says, “We love because He first loved us.” Whoever the person is that you love, your love for them is coming from God Himself, the source of love. When God created us, He created us in and with love. This is not only your family, but it is also His. He knew them even before you did and He will love them till eternity. His love for you is the same, He cares about what you care about and He knows what is good for you even more than you do. There is no one who cannot choose to trust in God but if we allow anything to pull us away from Him we are fools. Jesus told us, “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:37, NIV)
“If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.” (Psalm 91:9-10, NIV)
Do you believe this? Do you understand this? You cannot just confess that the Lord is your refuge with your mouth, but you must also take “Action” to make the Most High your dwelling. “Dwelling” means the specified place that we live at. Are you living in Him, do you talk about Him when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up? Do you have God and His words on your hearts and do you impress them on your children? Do you truly recognize Him and consider Him in whatever decision you make and everything that you do? Do you seek Him, the Father and the Lord Jesus, as your Most High?
God is omnipresent, He can be everywhere, but He also can choose to be there or not to. Remember Jesus cried loud when He is on the cross carrying all our sin, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46b, NIV) He is there when you seek Him and keep His commands. (Matthew 7:7, Matthew 28:20)
