We recently asked the following ice-breaker question in one of our Bible studies: “What kind of house would you like Jesus to prepare for you in heaven?” There were many interesting answers, and we had a wonderful and encouraging discussion time that was like a sweet appetizer before the main course. The discussion reminded me of these song lyrics: “Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, sing His mercy and His grace; in the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place.” (When We All Get to Heaven, Eliza E. Hewitt, 1898)
Have you ever dreamed about the new heaven and the new earth or the rooms of your heavenly Father’s house which will be your heavenly home? Do you truly believe one day it will happen and you will be called to your heavenly home? Jesus asked this question of His disciples when He said: “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2)
A bride will dream about her wedding day, a teenage boy will dream about his ideal car, and a future college student will think about his or her new school campus. If we truly know and believe that heaven is the place we are going to go, how shocking it would be if we never even think about what it might look like! Some may say, “I have no idea what heaven will look like. The Bible says we will have a new body and that no one will marry….so we should not even try to think about it as we continue living on this earth.” If you have had similar thoughts, then I want you to know that our Father in heaven is the best Daddy we could ever have. He has prepared the best for you, and He wants you to have excitement like you have never had for anything else when you dream about your heavenly home. He wants you to always think about Him and everything about Him, just as He thinks about you and everything about you.
Heaven is a place that God prepares for those who love Him and His Son Jesus. He is also preparing a new heaven and a new earth and will reveal them according to His timing. All those thoughts about what our Father is preparing for us should not only bring us excitement, but joy and hope as well. This is a hope built on a foundation of Rock, a hope that will never put those who dream of it to shame, and a hope that can never fail.
My dear friends, I am dreaming of the day when I will wear the dress which my Lord will give me and dance with Him on the golden floors beside the walls made of pearl, when I will walk with Him in His garden and sit with Him in the swing that He has built for His bride, when I will never stop hearing Him whisper His love into my ear, and where I will live happily forever.
Let us all keep that kind of hope so that one day we can all say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) Let us go forward and forever reside in our heavenly home!
