It hurts me to hear Christian brothers and sisters use the name of God in a disrespectful way, blaming God for their situation, or for judging others and in turn, judging God. Why do they do what they do? Maybe they cannot see the truth, the truth that God is love and just, and that they think it is okay to take our anger, frustration, and whatever other feeling they have on Him. Maybe their sorrow is too much to handle in the moment of time, the temptation is too hard to resist and they fail in their weakness. I want to tell you the truth, the real reason is because they do not have a deep relationship with God and they love something or someone else more than Him.
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God and God in them.” (1 John 4:16, NIV)
If God is in us, we are dwelling in His love. Love will not do anything which brings harm, hurt, hatred or condemnation only. How is it possible that we love others or anything in this world more than the One living within us? Unless He is not there…
But some say, didn’t God promise that He would never leave us nor forsake us? Then I will tell those “some”, that the promises God has made are for those who follow Him. The word “Follow” means to go or come after a person or thing proceeding ahead of us; to move or travel behind. Come after in time or order. (Modern Dictionary) It’s a “verb”, showing action. No action is made without a decision, so it’s also a decision. A decision that comes as a result of what is in our heart, those things that we care for and pay attention to. Because of that, whoever follows Jesus, first has Him in their heart. They pay attention to Him, make their decision to follow Him and then follow the decision with action.
“No one can serve two masters.” (Matthew 5:24) “If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” (1 John 2:15) “Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?” (James 4:4) “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.” (John 15:18)
You can find many more examples of this godly principle in the Bible. He is Light and there is no darkness nor shadow for us to hide in. There is not a single circumstance in which God will permit us to compromise His word, Jesus, the Son of God. No one can stand and argue or convince Him to agree with anything which is against His holiness, His righteous and His truth. The word of God even instructs us directly, “Do not follow the way of the world and do not hold on the tradition of men”.
Who could possibly ignore this statement if they are in love with God, “…their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” (Mark 7:6b-7, NIV)
My dear friends, don’t believe that we can compromise God in any way. The world will never go easy on you, but know this, if you lose God who stands by your side, the world will get you and you will be just like those unbelievers who are lost in the midst of this “Fallen” world. If you are convicted, repent and turn and follow Jesus.
