Throughout the Bible, God does not teach us a pattern, but His principles. Jesus, the Word, is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) But, that doesn’t mean He always does things the same. God will not be bound to a formula. Times and seasons change.
Throughout the entire Bible, God only one time instructed Joshua to march seven times around the city of Jericho. He required Gideon reduce his men to three hundred by the way they drank water only one time. Jesus did not always heal a blind man with a mixture of mud and saliva. Have you ever wondered why? According to the logic of man, if a solution works, we should repeat it again and again. However, our Lord God almighty is not man. He does not need a blueprint, procedure, or technique to make things happen or be done. All things happen according to His will and His will alone!
We cannot use the stories and events in the Bible to build a successful way of prayer, a prescription for healing, method to cast out demons, to bring deliverance to a person, or develop a system for financial gain…etc. Do not be deceived into thinking that if you do or follow a series of steps then God will grant the desires that we have. He is not a machine or a stubborn donkey, He is the Creator, the Maker of the heavens and earth!
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, I urge you to have caution. If there are any teachings which contain methods, patterns, or formulas that claim to allow you to function in the Spiritual gifts or receive blessing and prosperity or answered prayers…remember this:
“It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.” (1 Corinthians 12:11, NLT)
No one can learn to speak the languages of tongues by practicing it. No one can prophecy by learning a technique. God only performs miracle and signs according to His time and in His way and He gives gifts only so that His work can be fulfilled.
“They said to him, ‘We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.’ And Joseph said to them, ‘Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.’” (Genesis 40:8, ESV)
God has full authority to make every decision, to work in the way He wants, and to use every man He chooses. God can choose to respond to the prayer of a crying mom who is praying in her prayer closet daily. He can also respond to the prayer of a little one who is asking for a puppy. Those decisions and that power belong to God! This is His Word: “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NIV)
So what do we do? Pay attention, listen, and obey! This is His principle.
