Where is your rainbow God has given you?
This was a question God asked me to bring to a congregation in the Philippines during this difficult time. As a result of COVID-19 it seems like they have been in a state of endless lockdown as the virus spreads like the deadly pestilence in their lives. No one knows what tomorrow may bring… or even later on in a given day.
After living for many years, traveling to different places, and observing news from all over the world, do these things shock me? As Solomon said, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9, NIV) But, we must also remember our Creator (Ecclesiastes 12:1a), “Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, and the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel broken at the well, and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:6-7, NIV)
Remember God, who created you (Genesis 1:27), who loves you (1 John 4:10), who determines your time on earth (Job 14:5), who has plan for you (Jeremiah 29:11), and who will fulfill His purpose in and through you (Psalm 57:2). He knows what He is doing, and He also knows what you will do and even your deepest thoughts (1 Chronical 28:9b). His love for you is great and He chose grace over condemnation. He chose to give you His salvation, through forgiveness and redemption, and He offers you His promise – a covenant, Jesus.
Through the obedience of His Son and the blood He shed, we are saved from eternal punishment – the raging fire in hell, the wrath of God. But, is this the only covenant God has made with us? God gave Noah a rainbow as a sign of the covenant He made with mankind, to promise He will never send a flood to wipe out the earth again. Has God also given you a promise, one which is only between you and Him?
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NIV)
God is a God of goodness. He causes His sun to rise on both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45b, NIV). He has promised to all those who listen and follow His Son Jesus, that whoever comes to Him can find rest for their soul. He gave Solomon wisdom as His promised to him, and He sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples who waited on His word.
So, do you remember where the rainbow is that God has given to you? Do you take it sincerely, and hold on to it? Do you have faith in what He promised you and act as though you truly trust in His word? Do you live in hope for what you do not have yet? Or, are you living in frustration, feel weary, and live in unbelief?
Remember Solomon’s wise words, “Remember your Creator”. “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind.” (Numbers 23:19, ESV) He will not violate His covenant or alter the word that went forth from His lips (Psalm 89:34, ESV) Remember in both the day and at night, He is faithful to keep His promises. Remember and do not give up hope, and you will receive.
