1 Thessalonians 2:13, ESV
“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in your believers.”
By the grace of God, the time I came to know Jesus was also in a time that I needed a miracle and He came and healed me. Because of what He did for me in that moment I could not in any way deny Him or His power. Just like Jeremiah 10:5 (NIV) mentions, “No one is like you, LORD; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” After He healed me, He began to show Himself to me in a very clear way.
He speaks to me, He gives me visions and dreams, He shows me signs and is building me up to be a child of God who carries out my faith. In doing this, He also gives me understanding of His word and inspires me in every way to tap into His prospective. He draws me closer to Him and to have passion and compassion for others. Along the journey, for the past twelve years, I have become a different person.
Now I say, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20, NIV)
Now I have assurance, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)
And now I no longer conform to the pattern of this world, but am being transformed by the renewing of my mind and I am able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
God’s word is active and alive and it is not just for me but for you as well. For those who are stiff necked, walking towards death, who insist that the white is black, or that there is a grey area, I pray that they will have eyes to see, ears to hear and that their hearts will understand and receive the truth. I am changed not because of my work, or because I am smart (By the way, no one is smart in the eyes of God), but because of my stubbornness and foolishness, God has proved His Word to be sharper than any double edged sword (Hebrews 4:12) and we also know that His love can move the mountains! (Inspired by 1 Corinthians 13).
Why have I told you this?
Many I engage with are trying to understand God’s Word by studying the words and meanings. Sadly, they do not set aside time, or even think about, seeking to know His heart and understand why He wants them to hear His truth. Some of them want to gain knowledge from His word only on an academic level, but fail to actually apply it in their life. Some even try to adjust His word into something that they can accept, or that makes them feel good rather than submit to it. So, when things or situations go south, when the rain comes down, the streams rise and the wind blows and beats, just like the house built on sand, their life will fall with a great crash. (Matthew 7:26-27)
My dear friends, I am sharing this with you because I am carefully building my house on the Rock, Jesus the Word. For I know no one can use their own interpretation or justification to take His word. When the word of God becomes the word of men it loses its power. Do not be fooled to believe that you can read the word of God with your own knowledge and effort and for your own self-benefit and hope that you can transform to be like Jesus. It is only when you surrender to His Spirit and to His word, that you can be corrected and taught and be transformed.
