Matthew 26:34, New International Version
“’Truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.’”

Is freewill a good thing? I have heard different comments about it. Some say freewill is the reason mankind fell, and if God knew mankind would fall, why did He give it to us? Others say that if God is truly in control, how can we have true freewill? It depends how much you truly understand concerning when God said He is in control. There are also many who abuse the gift of freewill, and do whatever seems right to them or brings them pleasure. They either claim there is no God, or use this as an excuse to deny the power and the holiness of God.

Here is an example:

For quite a time, social media has been a topic of debate. Is social media a good thing or a bad thing? If you ask those who created it, they will tell you their story and insight, and indicate they had good intentions. The good and evil comes from how people use it – to post and share encouragement or misuse it as a public bullying tool.

It is the same as God’s will for His creation – male and female, to have freewill. A will to choose love and feel loved. A will to make a right and good decision and find affirmation. A will to give with kindness and receive with gratefulness. Freewill was never given according to any evil purpose. That is a choice that we can make and yet, God did not leave us to make it without also giving us help. He gives us His Word and His Spirit to be an advocate to help us, and be with us along the way as we walk on this earth. Adam and Eve had their warning and also their freewill, and they made their decision.

What about God being in control? If that is true, do we truly have free will? If you have this question, I urge you to read the story of Peter who denied Jesus three times. Jesus knew Peter would deny Him even before it happened, and He knew Peter would deny Him three times as well. Still, Jesus did not do anything to make Peter change his thoughts or decision. He also had no surprise when Peter truly denied knowing Him. He knew, He understood, and He determined to forgive.

If you have ears then I urge you to hear what the Word of God says. He is the God and is all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere at all times. He is “I Am who I Am”, and in Him there is no beginning nor end. He created the heaven and earth from nothing but His Word. How can anyone doubt the Creator? We must be humble and recognize and admit our weaknesses, even boast in our weaknesses just like the Apostle Paul mentioned. When we do this the Lord almighty will grant us wisdom and allow His power to rest on us! God is in control and no matter what anyone says or does, He knows and nothing will ever catch Him by surprise. In fact, in His truth and righteousness, He makes good plans to redeem, restore, and make new. Now it’s your turn to make a wise choice with the gift of God’s love – freewill.
