“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:2, NIV)
My dear friends, are you carrying the image of God? Now we are children of God, and we should have His image reflected in us and through us. I hope you no longer carry your sinful nature, or even worse, the image of the devil who is the liar.
I do not say this with a careless heart, but a grieving heart. I have saw, heard, and engaged with many who still seek the treasure of this world. Their focus and values are all based on what the world tells them. They begin to fear disappointing others, feel pressure from comparisons, or desire comforts of the illusion of the world. However, they either do not know or have forgotten that the world has been twisted by the evil one. As long as we do not live through the Spirit of God, we are living in our flesh. The Bible gives us the light and we should know it, “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psalm 51:5, ESV) And because of this, “Among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.” (Ephesians 2:3, ESV) So, if we do not have our mind set on the Spirit, and are being transformed into Christ’s likeness, our flesh will ultimately bring us to a place of destruction. (Galatians 6:8) And yet, the devil will seek to never give us an opportunity to see the light which shines forth from our Lord Jesus and His truth. What he does do is to pretend to be that light (2 Corinthians 11:14), and attract us to fly towards him. But just like a bug who is attracted to a bug zapper, if we go towards him we will have lost our life to his tricks. While many may think they belong to Jesus by saying they believe in Him, sadly there are also many who are being deceived and actually belong to the evil one.
How can you know for sure if you belong to Jesus? Let me simply ask you a question and it should give you your answer, “Is Jesus your Savior, or is He also your Lord?” Hear this, “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name…” (Malachi 1:6a, ESV) “But I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you…” (Jeremiah 7:23a, NIV) And, “to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20, NIV)
If Jesus is your Lord, you will keep His commands. When you do this He will surely be with you, and His Spirit will actively live in you and through you. And it is by this that you will not enjoy to sin. “Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.” (1 John 3:7-10, NIV)
We are the children of God. We are the reason the Son of God, Jesus our Brother, appeared and destroyed the devil’s work. If you are with Him, there is no reason then there is no way to justify living your life based on the ideals of the evil one. Nor does anyone keep on doing what is wrong and using a phase, “God gives us grace so it is ok to continue on in sin”. Let me remind you at the end of this message, “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left. (Hebrews 10:26, NIV)
