Genesis 7:23, English Standard Version
“He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.”
“But the LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book.” (Exodus 32:33, ESV)
“Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.” (Psalm 69:28, ESV)
“The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.” (Revelation 3:5, ESV)
I want you to pay attention to the words “blot out”. This is translated from the Hebrew word “machah” which means “wiping off’.
At the time of Noah, God wiped out every living thing on earth except Noah and his family. Then, the Lord mentioned how He will wipe off those who were against Him at the time of Moses. King David prayed to God for those who are unrighteous to be wiped off from the book of life. Again, Jesus tells us in the book of John that there will be some people whose name will not be blotted out from the book of life. This means that there will also be others whose name will be off.
Okay friends, do you understand that the events that happened in the time of Noah and Moses are true and actually happened? Should we still be stubborn and ignorant of what God has said? In the same way that the Lord God Almighty wiped off the living things in the past, He will also do so on the day of judgment. Many names will be blotted out from the book of life.
A couple of years ago, I went to the Noah Ark Encounter in Kentucky. I would like to share with you an interesting way that they described the timeline of Biblical events using 7 words that start with the letter C:
Creation, corruption, catastrophe, confusion, Christ, cross, consummation.
God created heaven and earth, and every living thing in it.
The man and woman He created disobeyed Him and mankind was corrupted.
A catastrophic event happened and all the living things on the earth were wiped away except for Noah’s family.
The enemy brought confusion to mankind.
God sent His Son who became flesh and Christ came to the world.
Jesus set us free from eternal death through His sacrificial love on the cross.
Through Him and His work, mankind has been consummated with God Himself once again.
…except those who reject Jesus and do not believe. Those who are not made righteous through obedience to Him as their Lord and Savior. (Romans 2:13) Those whose names have been blotted out from the book of life. May all who have ears to hear understand and receive.
